Custom Design

One of the best parts of my work day is creating custom, one-of-a-kind invitation sets for weddings, parties and other special celebrations. The custom-design process is as fun and creative for my clients as it is for me. Who wouldn’t get excited about creating an invitation set that captures the uniqueness of a once-in-a-lifetime event?!

I will work closely with you on everything from save-the-date cards, invitations and menus to hand-lettered escort cards and reception signage. Whether you choose professional digital printing or classic letterpress, you’ll find find me to be a perfectionist throughout the printing process. I favor using the finest luxe cotton papers because of their unequalled look and feel. I will work with you on all the details that elevate your special event from sweet to sublime, including finding unusually themed postage stamps, hand-blending calligraphy ink  to capture the perfect color and locating the perfect ribbon to literally tie everything together!

Here is a peek into the design process:

Step 1: You gather inspiration (some people find it helpful to create a Pinterest board) that best describes your vision of your special day: photos that convey the desired theme or mood, colors that inspire you, family traditions that will play a part in the festivities. Anything goes! Then we will schedule a phone chat or e-mail conversation so you can share all your thoughts and ideas with me. This is the time to get everything on the table (Love laser cuts? Yes, I can do them! Crazy about unusual shapes or organic materials such as hardwood veneers rather than paper? Let’s chat. I love dreaming up new ideas for my clients.) Once I have a pretty good idea of the direction we are headed…
Step 2: I will get back to you with ideas galore and present them to you along with costs. You pour over the ideas and…
Step 3: Decide what general direction you would like to go. Make modifications to the basic project outline that excites you and start forming the overall vision for your special day.  Then I will…
Step 4: Send a contract your way (nothing scary — just the details of your project laid out so we both are on the same page). At this time a 50% deposit is due. Then the best part of the design process begins…
Step 5: I get back to you (typically in about two weeks) with three different invitation designs. You have the fun of deciding which design you like best (your modifications are expected and welcome). Send your thoughts and feedback to me and…
Step 6: I incorporate your input and send you a new proof (repeat up to three times at no additional charge). Once you land on a final invitation design, I create the rest of your set (response cards, information cards, etc.) to match. You then have two rounds of edits on those pieces…
Step 7: Your lovely final files get sent off to my first-rate printer or the amazing letterpress studio with which I work. Your final payment is due at that point. The wait is almost over…
Step 8: You arrive home to find your invitation sets waiting for you at the front door! When you run your hand over the richly impressed letterpress type and marvel at the hand-lettered envelopes that are almost too gorgeous to tear open you’ll experience the thrill your guests will feel when they receive their exquisite invitations carrying the promise of a celebration to remember!
Step 9: Viola, you’re done! See, it was fun, painless and totally worth the time and attention you gave it. Now, look forward to the party and all the precious memories, good wishes and raves you’ll receive from guests about your fabulous invitations.
